New Definition for Political Views

No Question that the Internet and Online Video will play a crucial role in the upcoming elections. We’re barely into this election year and take a look at the statistics on Political Content. Looks like a bipartisan activity.

From Broadcast to Broadband

After the “.com boom,” the mounting success of social networking sites, like Myspace and Facebook, and social media sites like, YouTube and Digg have been the greatest revolution of the World Wide Web. After these sites were created, making it easy for the average person to create their own web pages and profiles and connect with people around the world, the user base for the web grew by over 45%. These web sites have become an advertising dreamland. Now, The PR industry is jumping on board and using these sites as tools to build reputations and create relationships with audiences and clientele. Here are some reasons we include Broadband outreach in our client's media campaigns:

  • The Numbers: Nielsen Online reports that over the last year that Facebook and Buzznet doubled in traffic and Linkedin and ClubPenguin tripled in traffic. There are also reports from Alexa.com and Google Page Rank that there are over 16 million monthly visitors on social media sites like Digg, Reddit and StumbleUpon.
  • Target Your Audience: Most social media sites have a specific demographic they are speaking to. Myspace reaches young adults and teens, ClubPenguin reaches children and Linkedin reaches professionals. There are also sites like Facebook that actually allow the user to target the audience that their media or ad will reach.
  • Speed of Content Delivery: It only takes a matter of minutes to upload videos, audio clips, media releases, graphics, etc...and just a few more minutes to start seeing the audience traffic and reactions.
  • Feedback: For the first time publicists can not only count the numbers of audiences that are experiencing their media but they can also get feedback from them! Sites like YouTube, MySpace and Digg allow consumers to comment on the media that they watch.
  • Variety in Tactics: With the social media revolution comes a variety of tools that can be used for PR. Some of the many options are MNRs (multi-media news releases), posting videos to blogs and video sites, viral videos, podcasts, wikis, and a profile on a social networking site.

With these reasons and the increase in popularity of social media sites it becomes more and more important to consider them in any PR strategy.

The Usual Suspects

Not a day goes by where we’re not asked the question, ‘What are the top online video sites’? Once again, the December 2007 Top 10 consists of the usual suspects. Plus here are a few key points of interest that might make great meeting banter or Happy Hour conversation.

  • MySpace lost 6% video market share and slid to 5th place for the first time ever. A year ago, MySpace held 2nd place among video contenders, with 19% market share
  • Heavy.com sustained one of the biggest losses of the month, coming down 34.9% for 2007.
  • Metacafe.com posted respectable gains, up 113.5% for the year.

Make Your Message Live

As part of a broader internal communications strategy, there is no substitute for live events.

Intranets are famously under-used by employees (and are sometimes inaccessible to a majority of them). Legal and practical hurdles often make it impossible to ask employees to receive work-related communications outside of business hours. Communicating important messages piecemeal – with posters, mouse pads, screen savers or other collateral – will give your employees a fragmented understanding, at best.

For these and other reasons, live events that convey a concentrated message in a compelling way are more important than ever.

Such events give your employees the context they require to translate raw ideas into practical action. They answer burning questions like,

“Why is this important?” “How seriously am I meant to take this?” “How am I expected to feel about this?” “How should I change my behavior today, to make this idea a reality tomorrow?”

A well-produced event feeds the mind and touches the heart.

Greetings from the Lead Dog

Welcome to our new web site. As someone who is always passionate about the creative process, the ability to have a team come together and build something as fresh and dynamic as our new website is a real treat. This website reflects where we are now, where we have been and where we want to be in the future.

I was asked recently what made me passionate about my job. After 9 years of running Dogmatic I can say without a doubt what makes me passionate is rolling up my sleeves and getting into the trenches with a great team of people and pulling something off that is much better than we expected going in. When I look back over the years, for me, the best times have been working on projects where I get the opportunity to solve problems quickly, especially when the stakes are high and the pressure is on. The bigger the project and the more people involved, the better.

I like intensity and I'm fortunate to have a staff that likes it that way too. I am also fortunate because the staff cares about the end product and customer satisfaction. This business has changed a lot since I started in 1993. Back then TV ruled and everyone shot on film. It's a new day and being nimble, quick and able to produce content across all platforms is mandatory. We have been doing just that since we started in the spring of 1999 and I think this website shows just that. I'm very proud of our work and all the people who have been involved creating it.

I hope to roll my sleeves up more often in 2008. We have a management team (well our first) and I'm praying that will give me more time to work with all of you when things get....well.....intense.

M
